Working from his home in Invercargill, he worked for 20 years to highly modify the 1920 Indian motorcycle that he had bought that same year. Munro set his first New Zealand speed record in 1938 and later set seven more. He travelled to compete at the Bonneville Salt Flats, attempting to set world speed records. During his ten visits to the salt flats, he set three speed records, one of which still stands today.

<br />
His efforts, and success, are the basis of the motion picture The World's Fastest Indian (2005), starring Anthony Hopkins, and an earlier 1971 short documentary film Burt Munro: Offerings to the God of Speed, both directed by Roger Donaldson.
<br />
<br /><b>
Early life
</b><br />
<br />
Munro was born in 1899 in Invercargill, New Zealand. His twin sister died at birth and Munro grew up on a farm in Edendale, east of Invercargill. Munro's interest in speed began at a young age, riding the family's fastest horse across the farm, despite the complaints of his father. Trips via train to the port at Invercargill were a rare source of excitement, and the arrival of cars, motorcycles and aircraft added to Burt's eagerness to join the world outside of his farm. As Munro's family discouraged his endeavors outside of farm life, he became constantly bored with daily routine, and at the outbreak of World War I, he intended to go to war as soon as he was old enough, for a chance to see the world.
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Munro remained on the family farm until the end of the First World War, when his father sold the farm. At that time, Munro worked on the Otira Tunnel construction until recalled to work with his father on a newly purchased farm. After this he became a professional speedway rider, but returned home to the family farm at the start of the Great Depression. Finding work as a motorcycle salesman and mechanic, he still raced motorcycles and rose to the top of the New Zealand motorcycle scene, racing on Oreti Beach and later in Melbourne, Australia. After World War II, Munro and his wife divorced, and he subsequently gave up work to reside in a lock-up garage.
<br />
<br /><b>
Challenges:
</b><br />
<br />Munro's Indian Scout was very early off the production line, being only the 627th Scout to leave the American factory. The bike had an original top speed of 55 mph. But this did not satisfy Munro, so in 1926 he decided to start modifying his beloved Indian. The biggest two challenges for Munro to overcome while modifying his bike were his lack of money and the fact that he worked full time as a motorcycle salesman. He would often work overnight on his bikes, he had a 1936 Velocette MSS as well, then he would go to work in the morning, having had no sleep the night before.
<br />
<br />
Because Munro was a man of modest means, he would often make parts and tools himself instead of having them professionally built. For example, he would cast parts in old tins, make his own barrels, pistons, flywheels, etc. His micrometer was an old spoke. In its final stages, the Indian's displacement was 950 cc, as built it was 600 cc and was driven by a triple chain drive system. The "Munro Special," as Munro called his bike, is now owned by a motorcycle enthusiast in New Zealand's South Island, and is on display at E Hayes & Sons, Invercargill. There is also a second motorcycle purported to be the original "Munro Special" in Te Papa Museum, Wellington.
<br />
<br /><b>
Bonneville Salt Flats and Speed Week:
</b><br />
<br />
The Bonneville Salt Flats in northwestern Utah, are known worldwide for their many miles of flat, compacted salt, perfect for testing speed machines. During Speed Week, usually in mid-late August, vehicle enthusiasts from around the world gather at Bonneville. Munro travelled to Bonneville ten times, the first time for "sightseeing" purposes. In the nine times he raced at Bonneville, Munro set three world records, in 1962, 1966 and 1967. He also once qualified at over 200 mph (320 km/h), but that was an unofficial run and was not counted. Following the misspelling of his name in an American motorcycling magazine in 1957, Bert Munro changed his name to Burt.
<br />
<br /><b>
Personal life:
</b><br />
<br />
Munro had four children—John, June, Margaret and Gwen—with his wife Florence Beryl Martyn, whom he married in 1927. They were divorced in 1947. Having suffered from angina since the late 1950s, Munro suffered a partial stroke in 1977, and was admitted to hospital. He found his co-ordination had diminished. Frustrated, but wanting his motorcycles to remain in Southland, he sold both machines to a local dealer. Munro died of natural causes on 6 January 1978, aged 78 years.
<br />
<br /><b>
Records:
</b><br />
<br /><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>
In 1962, he set a world record of 288 km/h (178.95 mph) with his engine bored out to 850 cc (52 cubic inches)
</li><li>
In 1966, he set a world record of 270.476 km/h (168.066 mph)
</li><li>
In 1967, his engine was bored out to 950 cc (58 cubic inches) and he set a class record of 295.453 km/h (183.586 mph). To qualify he made a one-way run of 305.89 km/h (190.07 mph), the fastest-ever officially-recorded speed on an Indian. The unofficial speed record (officially timed) is 331 km/h (205.67 mph) for a flying mile.

In 2006, he was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame.

Barger died June 29 at his home in Livermore.
<br />
<br />
A funeral at the coliseum may or may not happen, but it is up for discussion. Henry Gardner, the executive director of the Coliseum Authority, plans to discuss the club’s proposal with his board.<div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.bikerswitchboard.net/2022/07/Coliseum-Requested-for-Sonny-Bargers--Service.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="550" data-original-width="1000" height="352" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV-ejrDBMAl2w4WmK-zWDxFMoAQOtkXcEITXs96avLaCSi3bDnbbwX9lXioK4z9-Dxco50hp4QLZOW_Pna1bGekkOKTr9CuQWIGhMx_rVkJg2olcokt8tFD7-iYMRP3708bQIhR5PF6EtcPFGueqR6cQp1-e5O-uXhkEsrVN146pG5gVKmOvm4pqR3Ug/w640-h352/SBNews.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div><div>In a memo to the board, Gardner said the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club have asked to use the stadium’s parking lot for a service in August, but he’s waiting to hear back from authorities.<br />
<br /><i>
“We have consulted with the city’s leadership, including the Oakland Police Department, to seek guidance on whether or not this event can be safely and securely managed,”</i> Gardner wrote. <i>“The group estimates there will be approximately 2,000 of their members in attendance".
</i><br />
<br /><i>
"The Oakland Police Department is taking the lead in determining a safety plan and will be providing us with their recommendations on whether and how we should proceed.”</i> it continued
<br />
<br />
Events at the Coliseum, which is publicly-owned, do not necessarily need the approval of the Coliseum board, which is made up of members of the Oakland City Council, county Board of Supervisors, and members appointed by both government bodies.

<br />
<br />
The incident occurred shortly after 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 17, when police dispatch received six separate 911 calls informing them there was an armed confrontation at Pine Lakes Parkway and Whirlaway Drive. The whole thing was all captured on film, thanks to the biker's wife who was riding pillion.<div>

The couple told police that the driver of a Silver Toyota Tacoma had cut them off, and both vehicles pulled over. According to investigators, 50-year-old Rafael Vincent Rivera then emerged from his vehicle armed with a knife. <i>"Concerned there was about to be a physical altercation, the victim grabbed his metallic knuckles,"</i> the Sheriff's Office said.

<br />
The video shows the two men squaring up, when Rivera slashes at the biker with his knife. Without flinching, the biker calmly reaches inside his leather vest and produces a handgun, which he points at Rivera, who suddenly seems to settle down.

<br />
<br />
Rivera encourages witnesses to call police, which he then does himself, informing dispatch that someone had just pulled a gun on him. He forgets to mention his own knife, but the biker's wife reminds him she has caught it all on film. Rivera was arrested on a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon without Intent to Kill, and held on no bond. The biker meanwhile, who is a CCW (Carry Concealed Weapon) license holder, was hit with nothing but praise

<br /><i>
"Traffic disagreements should never result in violence in our streets. In this particular incident, the video captured by the victim’s wife clearly shows that her husband's life was threatened,"</i> said Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly. He then added,<i> "I applaud the way the motorcyclist handled this situation." "After his life was clearly threatened, he lawfully defended himself and then de-escalated the situation. The offender is lucky he was not shot."

Officials of Sky Motors Limited, the company they say they deposited money to get motorcycles, has vanished and officials switched off their phones.
<br />
<br />
Sky Motors Limited opened an office in Manibe ward, Ayivu Division in Arua city early last month, after allegedly getting clearance from the division authorities to offer motorcycle and tricycle loan services.
<br />
<br />
According to the company guidelines, each interested rider was expected to make an initial deposit of between sh680,000 and sh4,000,000 out of the required sh6.8 million to access a motorcycle and sh10 million for the tricycle. Potential clients were then expected to make either a weekly or monthly payment for a motorcycle or tricycle while those who can afford can also pay cash.<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.bikerswitchboard.net/2022/05/Motorcycle-Company-Vanishes-with-Millions.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img data-original-height="550" data-original-width="1000" height="352" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjD-rjvyG4IA9Y8NhHSBaDzip6efHkkMXH8IWRsl0XLs7ssPUsZyEOaWVe6vBoKTsjgi5UGLKTNvbaMiGLlXXaZhnsCcaKaZgA8pFmvkQE0KBRt_u1NZl7zWcDywsUcTOu-F7Oqp7XbraoKvpY8dAXdnFRWvy7-c1s8kaLl4689AbzGecYK97ozFe8wLA=w640-h352" width="640" /></a></div><br /><br />
The company had promised to deliver motorcycles and tricycles for the applicants on Sunday afternoon during a “mega launch”. However, on Saturday, some of the affected clients who had come to clear their outstanding initial deposits ahead of the launch were shocked when they arrived at the company’s office and found no officials in office.
<br />
<br />
After waiting in vain for the officials to arrive, the affected clients rushed to the nearby Manibe Police station in shock to report the matter but were later referred to Arua central police station.
<br />
<br />
Stephen Droma , one of the affected boda boda riders says that he paid shillings 1.36 million for two motorcycles and the company promised to deliver his motorcycles during the launch which never materialized.
<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, Flavia Adiru, a single mother from Katrini sub county in Terego district who lost shillings 2 million wants the city authorities to intervene noting that many of the affected clients borrowed money from SACCOs to secure the motorcycles.
<br />
<br />
Elmahad Salim, the chairperson of Arua city Boda Boda Association, told URN that he has received a list of at least 80 of his members who made partial payments to Sky Motors Company Ltd. He however faults Ayivu division authorities for issuing a trading license to company without due diligence.
<br />
<br />
Alice Akello, the Arua Resident City commissioner says that the company officials had been moving on different radio stations in Arua City popularizing their business as genuine. Akello however cautioned the residents to be extra vigilant in dealing with companies whose registration status is not known .
<br />
<br />
This is not the first time residents in the sub region have been conned by fake motorcycle companies who purport to offer motorcycle loan. In 2019, hundreds of businessmen, teachers, and boda boda cyclists in West Nile and Acholi sub regions were fleeced by Easy Boda-Boda Company Ltd in yet another motorcycle loan scam.

According to a company press release, the decision was made "out of an abundance of caution, is based on information provided by a third-party supplier to Harley-Davidson late on Tuesday concerning a regulatory compliance matter relating to the supplier’s component part.”
<br />
<br />
The company says it's temporarily halting all vehicle production and shipments at the vehicle assembly plant in Springettsbury Township due to a supply chain related matter. The production suspension excludes Harley-Davidson's new LiveWire electric bike. As of May 19, it's unclear how many employees will be impacted and for how long.

“We know from last year that outdoor events can be safely held when proper precautions are taken,”</i> said Rod Woodruff, President and CEO of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip.<i> “The majority of people act respectfully and practice social distancing when they are expected to act responsibly. Plus, we feel good about the highly effective vaccines coming soon to market.”
</i><br />
<br />
The Buffalo Chip took the pandemic seriously in August 2020 and it plans to do so again in 2021. The 2020 event included social distancing built into the amphitheater, prominent signage providing information on COVID-19 and encouraging social distancing, hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the campground, free face coverings for those entering the amphitheater and a strict backstage policy that included mask requirements, temperature checks and limited in-person contact.

<br />
<br /><i>
“We’ll be here in 2021 celebrating the freedoms we thought to be the birthright of all Americans, and I can think of no better way to kick off our 40th anniversary as a campground than to bring back legendary fan favorite Kid Rock. To top it off we’re going to drop a $30,000 bomb of amazing prizes on someone,”</i> said Woodruff.
<br />
<br /><b>
The 2021 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is On: Aug. 6-15
</b><br />
<br />
When asked why an event like the Buffalo Chip is important, Rod Woodruff continues, <i>“Our event provides people the freedom to come together despite differences, share moments and make real human connections. That’s something no amount of internet or TV can ever provide. It is essential for people’s mental health, self-worth and general well-being that they get out and socialize.”
</i><br />
<br />
The outlook of the live music industry is optimistic. Bands are announcing tours again, and several major music festivals have announced events in summer 2021. With the recent news of successful vaccine trials, the Sturgis Buffalo Chip is optimistic that by August 2021 the pandemic will be on its way to being under control.

The company will stop the sales and production of motorcycles but will continue to offer after-sales services through its existing dealership network. The decision to end operations in India is in line with the company's 'Rewire' strategy under which it will focus only on select markets.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.bikerswitchboard.net/2020/09/Harley-Davidson-Exiting-India.html" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="550" data-original-width="1000" height="352" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGNydKPwdH8wdq0_nfQZdOvaQ2qi4LfyZaZ0J9ipD4gFyO2Wkr7N87ywc1_fVPWiAQFmrcY3emjK4URR4enBNBd0iOrNGgk-nMq1-n3Vpj8iKj5bEArmOPbxFdrfp7LU7YX9v2MLzachCR/s640/Harley+File+Photo+-+Biker+Switchboard.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Harley-Davidson will also wind up operations from various other markets that project low sales and profitability for the brand. The iconic American brand commenced operations in India in 2009 and currently has a wide range of products in its portfolio. However, the demand for H-D bikes in India has plummeted over the last few years.
<br />
<br />
<b>Why is Harley-Davidson exiting the Indian market?
</b><br />
<br />
Harley-Davidson is ending operations in India as part of 'Rewire' strategy. The company reported a $96 million loss between April 2020 to June 2020, which is the first quarterly loss for the motorcycle maker. Despite an almost cult-like following in several markets besides the US, Harley-Davidson has been facing financial difficulties for quite some time now.
<br />
<br />
To counter this, the motorcycle maker had devised 'Rewire' strategy a few months ago that which included consolidation of operations to profitable markets like North America, Europe, and some parts of Asia. The company will also wind up operations in several low profitability markets like India.
<br />
<br />
According to figures released by SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers), Harley-Davidson sold only 103 units of motorcycles in India in July 2020 and 176 units last month in the country.
<br />
<br />
There were rumors that Harley-Davidson was considering to partner with an Indian company to share the financial load in the country and localize production. This would have been similar to what Triumph and KTM have achieved with Bajaj Auto. However, the company is now calling it quits in India as of now.
<br />
<br />
Harley-Davidson noted that it will close the manufacturing facility in Bawal and significantly reduce the size of its sales office in Gurgaon. And as for the after-sales services, the company's dealer network will continue to serve customers through the contract term.
<br />

<b>HARLEY-DAVIDSON RE-LAUNCHES THE ENTHUSIAST™ MAGAZINE
</b><br />
<br />
<i>A Re-Designed Publication to Inspire Riders and Celebrate Motorcycle Culture
MILWAUKEE (September 09, 2020) – Harley-Davidson is re-launching The Enthusiast™ magazine as a print and digital magazine designed to showcase motorcycle culture and the riding lifestyle through the lens of the Harley-Davidson brand. Originally published by Harley-Davidson from 1916 to 2008, The Enthusiast magazine will replace HOG® Magazine as the official publication of Harley-Davidson Motor Company and will become more widely available through other distribution channels.
</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>“This is the return to a great tradition,” said Jochen Zeitz, Harley-Davidson President and CEO. “We believe today The Enthusiast title is more relevant than ever. In a year when so many people have been stuck inside, we passionately believe in inspiring riders and aspiring riders to get out in the world to rediscover adventure through socially-distanced riding.”
</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>The first new issue of The Enthusiast magazine appears in the United States this week with a cover story featuring Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, stars of the new Apple Original series “Long Way Up,” premiering Friday, September 18 on Apple TV+. The series follows the epic motorcycle adventure McGregor and Boorman experienced on a 13,000-mile journey aboard two Harley-Davidson® LiveWire™ electric motorcycles through South America, Central America and Mexico.
</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>Printed four times annually, with a circulation of more than 500,00 print copies in the United States plus 150,000 copies internationally, The Enthusiast magazine is the most broadly circulated motorcycle magazine in the world. First published by Harley-Davidson in 1916, The Enthusiast magazine was among the first consumer motorcycle magazines in print, although Germany’s Motorrad (1903), Italy’s Motociclismo (1914), and Motorcyclist magazine (1909) in the United States preceded it.
</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>From 1984 until 2008, Harley-Davidson produced two separate publications for owners and riders, The Enthusiast magazine and HOG Tales magazine. In 2009 they were merged under the HOG Magazine title into one new magazine that drew content inspiration from both publications.
</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>With the movement of Motorcyclist to a digital format in 2018, the Enthusiast magazine, including the HOG Magazine years, remains the oldest continuously printed motorcycle magazine in the United States.
</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>All Full and Life Harley Owner Group members will continue to receive a complimentary subscription to The Enthusiast magazine as part of their membership benefits. Free App versions of the magazine are also available for iOS and Android phones and tablets. Harley-Davidson is also exploring new ways to deliver the print magazine in the United States, including by selling single copies of the magazine on the H-D® eCommerce site and through limited retail establishments, including at Harley-Davidson™ dealerships and select boutique motorcycle shops. For more information and history about The Enthusiast magazine, visit h-d.com/enthusiast.

<br />
<br />
Ken Kaplan and his son Ken Kaplan Jr. are the stars of a new reality show that made its world premiere on the Discovery Channel on Wednesday. In <i>"Kaplan America,"</i> Ken and his son work to get five bikes restored and sold in a week.

<br />
At the same time the try to track down three stolen bikes and bring the "thieves to justice."
<br />
<br />
Thanks to a combination of federal- and state-administered brownfield grants, Kaplan was able to convert the historic the Hockanum Mill on West Main Street to the museum and his Kaplan Cycles operation. The museum gets about 10,000 visitors a year, Kaplan said.<br />
<br />
Kaplan, who founded Kaplan computers in Manchester, said he was all to glad to showcase a collaboration between himself, state and federal entities that built up a part of Rockville. <i>"It's not just about the museum, it's about Rockville and the state of Connecticut,"</i> he said.

<br />
<br />
Ken Jr. said Discovery discovered the Kaplans' You Tube channel and seemed to like what was going on at the old factory. <i>"We want to congratulate the Kaplans on their long road,"</i> Vernon Mayor Daniel Champagne said. <i>"The show is going to be a hit and I can't wait for everyone to see it."</i><br />
<br />
Kaplan said was a rough stretch when the coronavirus pandemic first broke out. But as people began spending more time at home, a passion for motorcycles increased.
<br />
<br />
<i>"It's good clean American fun,"</i> Kaplan said.<i> "It's a good American sport. Think about it ... put on a helmet, get on your bike and stay 6 feet apart. It's a breath of fresh air as the world is going downhill. It's good to bring our business and Rockville to a worldwide audience."

<br />
<br />
McGrew, who recently purchased a home about a block from his downtown eatery, said the real blessing of such events is the ability for people to still come together as a community and have fun.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.bikerswitchboard.net/2020/09/Local-Bike-Nite-Continues-To-Grow.html" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="550" data-original-width="1000" height="352" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWwgRR63-NvowwIWbl5fV6QnqwCeQgdNSKwK6MUayVy2utcTmz-eMSt9hViNqLAm2G8_QnB1n0nW8YMCt7Hbu-nMzfbYyf-qfUGazX-Sauptv4PMJ9WM5ehLceYUPWxElDdIxETiBiLRJ0/s640/Rogersville+Bike+Nite+-+Biker+Switchboard.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<i>“Yes, the numbers are down for hospitality and restaurant businesses, but the numbers as far as community involvement aren’t down, and we really appreciate that,”</i> McGrew told the Times News earlier this week. “Economy is what drives us, and in the end we need dollars to make these businesses happen. But first and foremost for the Red Dog, it’s the community.<br />
<br />
You have people pulling together and spending their time to organize these events to attract people downtown, and for us the biggest thing is what the community does. In the end, the rest of it falls in place.”
<br />
<br />
<i>“There are a lot of bikers in this area”</i>
The fourth annual Rogersville Bike Nite is scheduled for Saturday in downtown from 5-9 p.m. Main Street will be blocked at 4 p.m.
<br />
<br />
McGrew added, “We’re always excited about Bike Nite. The first year they said there would be 100 bikes, and they had 200. The second year they said they would have 200 bikes, and there were 300. There are a lot of bikers in this area, it keeps getting bigger every year, and it’s always fun.”
<br />
<br />
McGrew and both of his business partners are motorcycle enthusiasts, and aside from being a major sponsor of the event this year, McGrew is also a judge for Saturday’s Bike Show.
<br />
<br />
Trophies will be awarded in three categories including Best Stock Bike, Best Custom Motorcycle, and Best Paint Job.
<br />
<br />
<i>“Some of these motorcycles cost more than a new SUV, and they’re beautiful,”</i> McGrew said.<i> “There’s an interesting mix. You’ve doctors, lawyers, businessmen, etc. on their $50,000-$60,000 bikes, and then you’ve actual bikers.”
</i><br />
<br />
<i>“Folks may be looking for something to do”</i>
The inaugural Rogersville Bike Nite in 2017 had 200 bikes show up, followed by 300 the next year, and 325 last year.
<br />
<br />
Rogersville Chamber of Commerce Director Nancy Barker isn’t counting on a third consecutive record breaking year, but she also isn’t counting it out.
<br />
<br />
<i>“If COVID wasn’t going on, I would say a definite yes (to a new record Saturday),”</i> Barker said.<i> “With COVID, it’s hard to say whether people will venture out. The fact that so many events have been canceled across our area, folks may be looking for something to do, so you never know. We’ve got the space to accommodate however many show up.”
</i><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.bikerswitchboard.net/2020/09/Local-Bike-Nite-Continues-To-Grow.html" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="550" data-original-width="1000" height="352" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhldvMF75zg37eLw4Rs13nk1Xasp_yTcYUaJ90Gw3Yz4Ib3oIvIO6u84Xc_bALCxTH73tUSEeNBeGHcTy6mONLTWGT5tu4tiQ200VICQ_IZqdCveUqg-0fjXzSdw_qkDwlWbAVvZ7sDfpZp/s640/Rogersville+Bike+Nite2+-+Biker+Switchboard.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Live music will be performed by The Valley Authority, which plays a combination of rock, country and easy listening. Downtown restaurants will be open late, and several downtown shops will also be open.<br />
<br />
A few vendors will be set up along Main Street including Busted Knuckles Motorcycle Shop from Rogersville, an audio store, and a motorcycle apparel store from Kingsport. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the event. Social distancing and face masks are encouraged, and there will be hand washing stations throughout downtown during the event. Free face masks will be available at the event information booth.<br />
<br />
<i>“Some of the most beautiful bikes you’ve ever seen”</i>
Barker noted that you don’t have to be a biker or own a motorcycle to enjoy Rogersville Bike Night. It’s fun to bring a lawn chair, listen to the music, and people watch.
<br />
<br />
<i>“I’m not a big motorcycle person, but I love our show,”</i> Barker said. <i>“You’ll see some of the most beautiful bikes you’ve ever seen, and the original things that people do to them. It’s worth a walk-through. It’s amazing the creativity people have when it comes to customizing their motorcycle.”
</i><br />
<br />
Barker added, <i>“It’s a great venue and laid back, and folks like riding in and being able to hang out and relax and visit with people and enjoy the music. With the restaurants open, it’s a good opportunity to check out some of the new restaurants. Apparently we’re doing something right because folks keep coming and it keeps growing every year.”</i><br />

A state senator sent photos of the concert to the governor or South Carolina as an example of “recklessness,” and called it a “super spreader event.” The business posted live videos from the concert and throughout the week on its Facebook page.

<br />
<i>“HCPD continues to monitor and respond to activity around the county,”</i> the department posted on social media. Additional patrol officers have been assigned to work weekend coverage. <i>“Community members and visitors are reminded to act responsibly.”</i><br />
<br />
SBB, as it's often referred, was issued an administrative violation for violating the governor's executive orders back in July.
Patrols have been stepped up in the South Division to monitor and respond to any activity.

For more than five years, Sturgis has been looking to annex properties that are immediately adjacent to the city and get city services, but are not within city limits.
<br />
<br />
<i>"The Jackpine Gypsies use city roadways to access their property, the emergency services, and even city utilities," </i>says Sturgis City Manager, Daniel Ainslie. <i>"And so it becomes natural to make sure that area is also within the city limits."
</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.bikerswitchboard.net/2020/05/City-And-Motorcycle-Club-Disagree.html" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="550" data-original-width="1000" height="352" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSnFpIQwVgbKs8zw0niRnWNzrYQ1t5tG5gBDDRaqqLvJdwaUlGu2ipfmW9s2AXlJJ4chofliF9lmDo2H1T7pJ-l9OXoEJoiAUNHsjaznAXTns2qMrGAD5AeP1IUNc3JX9rsvzCtcrXbe99/s640/Sturgis+Rally+-+Biker+Switchboard.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The city has been in negotiations with the club for almost half a year to discuss the proposed annexation.
<br />
<br />
An opponent said the city of Sturgis’ attempt to annex property owned by the Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club will mean the demise of the longtime organization closely tied to the start of the Sturgis motorcycle rally 82 years ago.
<br />
<br />
Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club President Brett Winsell said the annexation goes further than the potential for a higher property taxes.
<br />
<br />
He said the club is more concerned with current and future city ordinances concerning noise, signage and other issues that may prevent the club from staging its races and other events on the grounds.
<br />
<br />
The Jackpine Gypsies and founder J.C. Pappy Hoel began the Sturgis motorcycle rally in 1938 and have hosted motorcycle races, hill climbs, motocross and other events, both at the Sturgis Fairgrounds and on the Gypsies Club Grounds. <i>“This will basically kill the Gypsies,”</i> club representative Brett Winsell told the Sturgis City Council. <i>“The tax burden is something that we can’t bear.”</i><br />
<br />
<center>
<iframe frameborder="0" height="360" scrolling="no" src="https://www.kotatv.com/templates/2015_Sub_Video_Share?contentObj=570191071" style="max-width: 100%;" width="640"></iframe></center>
<br />
<br />
That burden would reportedly increase by slightly more than $2,500 annually, from about $4,800 in county and school taxes already paid yearly by the club.
<br />
<br />
<i>"We have tried a voluntary annexation," </i>says treasurer of Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club, Vicki Winsell.<i> "It has not been in our best interest at all. But if we could come to an agreement that would benefit both parties it would be great. Because right now, we don't feel there's a representation for the gypsies."
</i><br />
<br />
Winsell says if the land became part of the city the club would be limited, and could loose some of the freedoms they have by technically being in the county.
<br />
<br />
According to Ainslie, the annexation is an agenda item at Monday's council meeting, but staff will recommend that a decision be postponed for another month. With the postponement, both sides are willing to head back to the negotiation table and hopefully reach a voluntary agreement.<br />

Facilities affected are York Vehicle Operations in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin facilities Tomahawk Operations and Pilgrim Road Powertrain Operations.
<br />
<br />
<i>“We recognize the unprecedented nature of this global crisis. In order to best support our employees and following the social distancing guidance issued by public health authorities, we are temporarily suspending the majority of production at our U.S. manufacturing facilities,”</i> said Jochen Zeitz, acting CEO and president, Harley-Davidson. <i>“We will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary steps to prioritize employee health and safety.”
</i><br />
<br />
Harley-Davidson officials said they will continue monitoring the situation closely and make additional adjustments as necessary in accordance with World Health Organization and Center for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The majority of its United States production employees will be on temporary layoff with medical benefits. The company will use this idle time to continue their deep cleaning and disinfecting its production areas and common areas to further protect workers for when they return back to work.
<br />
<br />
Harley-Davidson closed its Pilgrim Road Powertrain Operations facility after an employee tested positive for coronavirus and is thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting the building, per the company’s coronavirus response protocol.

On Monday, Harley-Davidson asked employees at its Milwaukee-area headquarters and Product Development Center, except those business-critical roles that must be done onsite, to work remotely through at least the end of March.<br />
<br />
The plant in Springettsbury had about 950 employees in 2018 when the company announced it would add an additional 450 there because Harley-Davidson was shuttering its facility in Kansas City. The Springettsbury plant had about 2000 employees a decade earlier.
<br />
<br />
Earlier Wednesday, General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler suspended all of their North American production plants to mitigate the spread of the virus.<br />
<br />
Additionally, the company is proactively working with its dealers to assess individual impacts and its encouraging dealers to follow the public health guidelines in their communities for the safety of its consumers. In accordance with social distance guidelines, all Harley-Davidson sponsored events have been cancelled until mid-April.<br />

<br />
<br />
The Board of Directors has appointed Jochen Zeitz as acting President and CEO, a current board member who has also been named Chairman of the Board. Current Chairman of the Board, Michael Cave, is now Presiding Director.<br />

<br />
The company plans to use an external search firm to undertake a search for a new CEO, and a further announcement will be made at a later date.
<br />
<br />
<i>"The Board and Matt mutually agreed that now is the time for new leadership at Harley-Davidson," said Zeitz in a statement. "Matt was instrumental in defining the More Roads to Harley-Davidson accelerated plan for growth, and we will look to new leadership to recharge our business. On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Matt for his 26 years of service to Harley-Davidson. He has worked tirelessly to navigate the Company through a period of significant industry change while ensuring the preservation of one of the most iconic brands in the world."
</i><br />
<br />
Harley has been struggling with declining sales in the U.S., its biggest market, as it tries to adapt to an aging customer base while looking to expand markets overseas.
<br />
<br />
The announcement of the leadership change, made after the markets closed, pushed Harley’s shares up 5% in after-hours trading. They had fallen 2.3% with the broader markets during the trading day.
<br />
<br />
Harley’s closing share price Friday was down 18% for the year.
<br />
<br />
Harley reported a net profit of $423.6 million in 2019, but it made only $13.5 million in the fourth quarter.<br />
Levatich will assist with the transition through the end of March. Harley-Davidson, Inc. was founded in 1903.<br />

Robert Anderst for the past three years to forbid “motorcycle profiling” by law enforcement — deciding to pull someone over or arrest or search them solely because they’re riding a motorcycle or wearing motorcycle gear — handily passed the Senate on Wednesday.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.bikerswitchboard.net/2020/02/Anti-Profiling-Bill-Passes.html" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="550" data-original-width="1000" height="352" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTpjS13W7h6b6NUXJG5KrJa706ftNw-cchH4a4TofG05rqrZL7zGQ1oY6DsYsy0LuyBjNHeq1kh0yVYaB-N1AsCKx6WrehHTKqiJfQ03OnwW52h_aOrBD766chgUv4fiDNoM4Izmq1YMMZ/s640/Anti+Profiling+Bill+Passes+-+Biker+Switchboard.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The 25-9 vote came after similar legislation died in the Senate last year on a 17-18 vote; and the year before that, after passing the House unanimously, it was killed on a 13-22 vote in the Senate. This year’s bill, SB 1292, started in the Senate.
<br />
<br />
As they have for the past two years, motorcycling enthusiasts and members of motorcycle groups turned out in big numbers to testify in favor of the bill in committee, saying they’ve been profiled by law enforcement officers when they were abiding by all laws.
<br />
<br />
This year’s bill, like last year’s, in addition to defining and forbidding motorcycle profiling, also states that it’s not creating any new basis for lawsuits. To become law, it now needs House passage and the governor’s signature.<br />
